De Vuurtoren (opus 96 nr 2)

Programme notes

Opus 96 is composition for pipe organ and a solo instrument ad libitum. The music of the three versions of opus 96 is identical. The registration differs. The score includes drawings meant to suggest the registration. Casteels collaborated with three Singaporean visual artists he has known for many years: Joshua Yang for The Lighthouse, Ian Woo for De Vuurtoren and Milenko Prvački for Le Phare. 

Ian Woo, the dedicatee, is a prominent contemporary artist and art educator from Singapore. He is also a key academic at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, where he leads the MA Fine Arts programme and where Casteels was Dean of Performaning Arts from 1995 to 2003.

Joris Verdin is een Belgische organist, componist, muziekpedagoog en musicoloog. Hij heeft een internationale reputatie als specialist op het gebied van het harmonium en andere toetsinstrumenten. Joris was hoofd van de Orgelsectie aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen en is emeritus hoogleraar aan de Universiteit van Leuven (KU Leuven), waar hij orgelkunde doceerde.
