Programme notes

The commission for Joy! ended a one-year-long post-covid-19 creative silence. Joy! was composed in four days, as if the urge to create emerged like an unstoppable underground spring. The structure of the composition is fan-shaped, i.e. ideas unfold one after the other, after which they reappear in the exact reverse order. Joy is expressed by the energy of the fast tempo, by the extrovert initial fanfare, by a lyrical ascending melody, by a lighthearted second melody, by wood winds arpeggios merrily flying up and down, by the brilliancy of multiple cymbals and by the cheerful conclusion.
