Le Sacre du Printemps d' Igor Strawinsky

Two pianos

Circumstances of creation

(Dixit Casteels) Sacre du Printemps was the very first full score I purchased. The music obsessed me. I bought over twenty LP recordings. I thought I knew the piece when I managed to turn the pages of the full score correctly whilst listening. Later, whilst studying at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles, I made this arrangement for two pianos during the Summer vacation of 1979, completed it during the 1980 Easter break and played it at home for fun with my friend pianist Eugène Galand. The day after I completed my transcription, in the music shop Point d'Orgue that was located right in front of the Conservatory, I discovered an existing reduction for piano duet by the composer and published by Boosey & Hawkes. Luckily, had I known, I would probably not have embarked on his painstaking and handwritten labour of love.
