Quadrangolo

Soprano, tromba in D e organo a tre clav. e ped.

Programme notes

This haunting work is an autobiographical drama with four characters, the composer, his lady muse, her husband and her child. Each character is cryptographically represented by a number of musical notes. The formal structure is a prelude followed by four scenes and a final aria. Extracts from poems by Flemish poet Hugo Claus and French poet Charles Baudelaire are intertwined. Soprano Dominique Mols is the spouse of Ronald Zollman who was then the composer's conducting teacher at the Brussels Conservatory.
