¿SIETE?... por SIETE!

Muchas culturas y religiones confieren al número 7 varios simbolismos. Sin embargo, en esta composición para orquesta de cuerdas, jugué con el siete sin más razón que la del placer de trabajar con un número primo. ¿Por qué el número siete? Por el siete en sí mismo. De ahí el título, ¿SIETE?… por SIETE! El siete está omnipresente en la estructura, en las proporciones, en las melodías y en los acordes de esta pieza compuesta especialmente para la 6ª edición del 2024 Puente Festival Interoceánico. La sección inicial expresa desolación con una ausencia de diálogo entre una melodía lenta e incierta en el registro agudo del violín y un sombrío pizzicato de violonchelos y bajos. Poco a poco, la melodía encuentra su camino hacia abajo y las líneas de pizzicato se arrastran hacia arriba. Las dos voces se encuentran en la 2ª sección, un presto giratorio, que se evapora gradualmente en la 3ª sección de contraste, un baile tambaleante con paradas y salidas. Un presto modificado regresa en la 4ª sección que conduce a un clímax melódico. La 5ª sección consiste en otra versión del presto que se lanza hacia la 6ª sección melódica. La 7ª y última es una coda brillante.

Many cultures and religions load number seven with symbolism. However, in this composition for string orchestra, I played with seven with no other reason than the joy of manipulating a prime number. Why seven? because of seven. Hence the title, ¿SIETE?... por SIETE! Seven is omnipresent in the structure, proportions, melodies and chords of this piece especially composed for the 6th 2024 Puente Festival Interoceánico. The opening section expresses desolation with a non-dialogue between a slow and uncertain melody in the top register of the violin and somber pizzicato in celli and bass. Gradually the melody finds its way downwards and the pizzicato lines creep upwards. The two lines meet in the 2nd section, a whirling presto, which gradually evaporates into the 3rd contrasting section, a limping dance with stops and goes. A modified presto returns in the 4th section that leads to a melodic climax. The 5th section consists in another version of the presto launching into the 6th melodic section. The 7th and last is a brilliant coda.
