Soliloquy XVII or Scymboals

4 actors, 4 dancers and 4 computer-musicians and an indeterminate ensemble of metal percussion, gamelan instruments and keyboards

Fifth piece of the cycle entitled No Face, Scymboals is a ritualized mahjong game in which the characters engage in an abstract debate on love. The word Scymboals is a portemanetau of symbols and cymbals: as symbols mark time, cymbals sound, the wheel of fortune turns round and round.
