Still Life in blue minor nr 1 and 2

A cappella octet

Programme notes

The premiere performance, featuring Evelyn Ang, Angela Cortez, Melissa Estrella, Daniel Ho, Jeremy Koh, David Ng, Leslie Tay, and Felicia Teo Kaixin, took place on 14-XII-2016, at the Dhoby Ghaut Visual Arts Centre. During the performance, Dirk Stromberg provided live processing of the vocalists' voices. Each singer was assigned a unique segment of Yoshua Yang's drawing, "Still Life in Blue Minor. This premiere was part of the larger production, Hearing Images & Seeing Sound, conceived by Robert Casteels and funded by the National Arts Council Singapore.

The exhibition and its accompanying performances were built upon the core philosophical questions: "Can a drawing or a sculpture be made to sing? Can a sound be made to draw?"

The production was a cross-disciplinary collaboration that also involved visual artist Milenko Prvacki, videographer Hilmi Johandi, and electro-acoustician/e-luthier Dirk Stromberg. A 78-page catalogue documenting the event was subsequently published.
