The Lighthouse (opus 96 nr 3)

Programme notes

Opus 96 is composition for pipe organ and a solo instrument ad libitum. The music of the three versions of opus 96 is identical. The registration differs. The score includes drawings meant to suggest the registration. Casteels collaborated with three Singaporean visual artists he has known for many years: Joshua Yang for The Lighthouse, Ian Woo for De Vuurtoren and Milenk Prvački for Le Phare. Margaret Co Chen, the dedicatee, is a well-known figure in the organ music scene in Singapore, referred to as its Grand Dame. She has served as an organ consultant for the Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore (where she also curates a organ series), the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore and the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in Kuala Lumpur, all three by the same German organ builder Klais.
