Circumstances of creation
(Dixit Casteels) I composed this piece for ensemble whilst attending my first of two courses of the Dartington International Summer School under Peter Maxwell Davies for composition and analysis, as well as under John Carewe for conducting. The year was 1982, the Summer preceding the start of my studies at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles. At Dartington I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the trees of the estate. Keith Williams conducted the Academy Ensemble for the first performance during a 5PM informal concert at Dartington Hall.
