Tuba Mirum
Solo euphonium + 6 euphonium, solo tuba + 12 tubas
Tuba mirum is a Latin phrase that translates to the astounding trumpet. It is known as the opening line of the second part of the III. Sequentia in the traditional Requiem Mass.
Casteels's handwritten sketches show the start of an ambitious composition with four levels of technical difficulty for the tubas and euphonium players moving through five standing positions on stage. One page reads Requiem for a loser 28-IX-2003.
