Programme notes:
Aenhoort, ick sal beghinnen is an old Flemish song dating for the European Middle Ages. The earliest document showing the entire melody dates from 1539. The title means: Listen, a song i will start to sing. It is a song imploring for help when the soul is sad or wounded. Casteels set the melody for SSAA a cappella during the years he was actively involved as a composer, arranger and accompanist of Brussels’ top female voice choir Nausikäa.
